Happy Birthday Olivia and Kennedy! Today is my little sweetie twins first birthday and I can’t believe how fast time has gone. They both have the cutest personalities of their own. Even though having twins can sometimes be a daunting task, I wouldn’t change it for the world, we love them so very much! We’re celebrating this weekend when my family can come in town from Idaho, so this post is kind of a preview to the party celebration and a look into our twin journey.

Our Twin Journey
Before I get into the party stuff, I wanted to tell you a little about our twin journey and about our little identical twin girls. My husband Robbie and I knew we were expecting, but it wasn’t until I was at 17 weeks that we found out we were having twins! At our first ultrasound appointment at 7 weeks, they only saw one of the tiny little embryos, so that’s what we expected–one baby. At 16 weeks I had my monthly check up where they used the dopler to find the baby’s heartbeat and measure my belly growth. My doctor measured my belly and then exclaimed, “that’s sure a heck of a growth since your last visit”, but chalked it up to my short and petite stature. At 17 weeks we decided we would go in earlier than our 20 week appointment to find out the gender to surprise our parents for Christmas. Well, as you can imagine, our parents weren’t the only ones surprised at the gender reveal, we learned we were having TWO girls! Never had we thought about the possibility of having twins.
The girls arrived at 34 weeks and 5 days, luckily, we had my baby shower a few weeks before they came. Olivia, born 13 minutes ahead of Kennedy, weighed 4 lbs. 3 oz. and 18 inches long while Kennedy weighed in at 4 lbs. 4 oz. and 17 inches long. Both were immediately taken to the NICU where they spent 23 days. Both started out on CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) and then were weaned down to oxygen. We loved the care our little girls received from the nursing staff, respiratory therapists and from doctors. The day to take them home had finally come, and we couldn’t have been more excited and nervous all at the same time. Both girls came home with oxygen and heart monitors and transitioned off about a month later. Although the NICU was stressful at times, being home with both girls with oxygen and heart monitors as a new mom was even more stressful. Luckily Robbie and I had the best help anyone could ask for. My family from both sides took turns staying at my house helping out during night feedings and throughout the days for several months. They probably don’t know how much their help meant to us, but I really couldn’t have done it without them. Here’s the gift I gave to them.(L-R: Olivia and Kennedy at 2 months)
Today, the girls are one and have come so far. They are both walking, saying mom and dad, clapping their hands (on demand), waving and are the most happy, smiling girls I know as you can see from the picture below. And I’m not just saying that–Kennedy has a cheesy grin that will make you laugh out loud and Olivia loves to cuddle! Even though their personalities are pretty different, they are identical, can you tell them apart? (L-R: Olivia and Kennedy, Middle: Kennedy, Bottom: Olivia)
Aren’t these photos stunning? I absolutely fell in love with these pictures as they captured their little personalities perfectly. I was so lucky to have my good friend Kristina take these, because she has amazing photography skills, as you can tell. The mini orchard was the perfect location and Kristina was SO good with the girls. So if you live in Utah County, Kristina is the best photographer around!
