I have a very limited amount of holiday decor mostly because I like things simple, but this heart arrow banner, adds just a little color and comes in at only $0.75! All you need is felt, scissors (or a cutting machine- I used my Cricut Explore), and a sewing machine with thread. I love working with felt because it’s sturdier and more sustainable than paper, but cost effective. I hope to be adding several other felt projects down the road. We loved this felted vintage truck pillow that we made last year.
My heart arrow Banner is made out of polyester felt wool, the kind that comes in sheets at the craft store for about $0.25. You can use real wool if you’d like and it works just as great, it’s just a bit more expensive. The only other items you’ll need are scissors, and a sewing machine and thread- it’s pretty simple!
Heart Arrow Valentine’s Banner
To make this cute banner, simply print and cut (using the patterns below) for each shape to make an arrow. One heart, four circles and one chevron feather make one heart arrow. Once everything is cut, I like to layout each piece so I don’t accidentally sew the heart or feather on the wrong way. Start sewing from the end of your first arrow. Once you get to the top of that piece, don’t stop sewing. You’ll continue sewing off the the other end and pulling through enough space and sewn thread until you slip in the next piece.
I like to line up my pieces in front of my machine so I don’t sew the pieces from the wrong side. After the chevron feather, you’ll sew four circles and then the heart from the top to the point, leaving buffer thread in between each. Take a look at the diagram on the order and direction you’ll need to sew the pieces.
Continue sewing until you’ve sewn all the arrows. If you’d like you can sew off each end to add a tassel for tying or taping it up. Use as a garland on your mantle or on an inside door.
