It’s fall, and I’m loving all the beautiful colors and the crisp clean air and even the many rain storms we’ve had here in the west. It is such a beautiful time of the year! As you may remember I’ve had lots of fun using Deco Foil on my home decor projects and this one was truly one of a kind! I made this fall pumpkin DIY pillow with Deco Foil, some simple polka dot fabric and a DIY Stencil. It would make the perfect housewarming gift or hostess gift for someone hosting Thanksgiving this year. You can use make your own stencil, or purchase one like this adorable stencil!
I followed this video tutorial on how to make a envelope pillow and it was so easy! Follow the video until you go to put the two sides together. You’ll want to add your foil before your put these two pieces together.
First, get all your supplies ready. You’ll need fabric glue, foam spouncer brush, a stencil, parchment paper, Deco Foil, and an iron and ironing board. Here are the supplies needed:
Next you’ll want to tape down your stencil so it won’t move on you, especially if you’re using a paper stencil. If you have sections of the stencil that may lift when you use the glue be sure to use a roll of tape to keep it from moving everywhere.
Once all your supplies are ready, you’ll start by stenciling with your fabric glue and foam spouncer. Let the glue get tacky, but not dried all the way. Lay your choice of Deco Foil on top of the glue with the color side up. Overlap your pieces if necessary because you don’t want to miss any part of the glue.
Once your Deco Foil is placed and pressed down a little over your glue stencil, cover it with parchment and iron on a silk/wool setting for 30-1 minute over all parts of the stencil, pressing gently.
Let your project cool for about 2-5 minutes, or until it’s not warm to the touch. Pull off excess foil and reveal your pretty project!
Sew up your pillow according to the video tutorial above and you’ve got the perfect fall hostess or housewarming gift! Of course you can also give it to yourself too! Check back for a detailed tutorial on making my silver foiled maple leaf pallet art in a few weeks!
