This year I am determined to have my holiday decorations up in a more timely manner and this also means that I need some more decorations. The DIY painted rugs were such a fun project that I wanted to take it a step farther and do some fun fall themed doormats.
These are super fun and can be finished in an afternoon. You can do the “happy” mat in red and have it last for all of the holidays (Happy Halloween, Happy Thanksgiving, and so on…). These rugs were made from indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot. I trimmed them down to 33″x24″. ( I would have done 36″ but I didn’t buy quite enough.)
The “thanks” rug instructions are similar to the happy with the exception of the border. Using the good old blue painters tape and taping 2″ in from the edge. To clean up the corners use a straight edge and a craft knife to make them sharp.
The templates for the “happy” and “thanks” rugs are in pdf format. They print off in multiple pages and make sure your print isn’t set to “shrink to fit”. Print and match up the pages as shown above.
