Cheer up, getting older isn’t so bad and it will be even better with this fun gift idea. The illusion that the candy has been professionally packed is a fun surprise. It is convenient that once you have made it the recipient won’t need a can opener to get inside. They can just rip back the pull tab and enjoy.
It is super easy to make this. I just open up the can from the bottom side anytime I am adding vegetables to a dish and rinse and dry it out and side it aside for later.
1- When you are ready to turn it into a gift trace out the bottom on a piece of scrap cardboard and cut it out. You will need to trim off 1/8″ around the edge to make sure it fits the inside of the can.
2- Fill it almost full with chocolate (or if you do a different label, what ever you choose) and leave about a 1/4″ left.
3- Put the cardboard piece it and glue it lightly into place. (You don’t want gobs of extra glue draining down in the can and melting your chocolate!)
4- Next Glue the metal bottom back into place.
5- Print and cut the label: birthday-age-label Make sure your printer isn’t set to “shrink to fit”.
6- Secure label with tape or hot glue.
7- Thread a 4″ piece of ribbon through the pull tab. Wrap the pull tab around and staple onto ribbon ends and your are done. It is sure to be a hit at your next birthday party!
